A Cursillo weekend is an opportunity to step away from everyday life, spend time with God and others, and discover fresh encouragement for your journey of faith.
The weekend runs from Friday evening until Sunday afternoon. During that time, we share worship, prayer, talks, discussion, fellowship and time for reflection.
You will hear a series of talks and meditations exploring different aspects of Christian faith and discipleship. Around each table, there is space to listen, reflect and discuss what you have heard with others.
There is plenty of opportunity to enjoy good company, conversation, laughter and a few fun surprises along the way. Everyone taking part, both guests and team members, shares fully in the life of the weekend.
Although Cursillo is not a silent retreat, there is time for quiet reflection and prayer. The weekend concludes with a celebratory Eucharist in a nearby church.
Many people describe their Cursillo weekend as a significant moment in their faith journey: a time when they experienced God's love afresh, found renewed confidence in their faith, and discovered lasting friendships and support.
Cursillo is about much more than a single weekend.
After your weekend, your sponsor will help you connect with a small Reunion Group. These groups meet regularly, either locally or online, offering friendship, encouragement and support as we seek to grow in our lives of prayer, study and action.
Across the Diocese, there are also opportunities to gather with other Cursillistas for worship, fellowship and encouragement. These occasions help us continue the journey together and strengthen our faith in everyday life.
As Cursillo reminds us: if Christ is counting on us, we can always count on him.
Cursillo offers:
A deeper and more confident Christian faith.
A renewed awareness of God's presence and purpose in everyday life.
A supportive community rooted in prayer, friendship and encouragement.
Practical inspiration for living and sharing the Gospel wherever we are.
Cursillo is for lay people and clergy alike. It is for anyone who wants to explore, deepen or renew their faith, and who is looking for encouragement in their walk with Christ.
Since the first Durham Cursillo weekend in 2003, nearly 200 people have taken part.
Many continue to play an active role in Durham Anglican Cursillo and in the life of their local churches and communities.
Our weekends take place at Shepherd's Dene in Riding Mill which is a beautiful Retreat House 26 miles north of Durham.
